Heyhey, it’s #TicTacTuesday!! The 153rd variety added to the collection: Grape SOUR. These arrived to us from Europe, but it’s hard to tell where this pack actually came from. The label on back says Estonia, but also has another label slapped on top of it that’s written in Lithuanian.
This flavor was part of the “Choose Your Match” campaign Ferrero did in 2024, which included Dragon Fruit, Mango Lime, Ginger Lemon, and Lemon Sorbet. I wasn’t able to get most of those flavors at the time, but I’m still working on getting them.
There was a grape flavor many years ago in 2014, and back then I liked it. That version had grape and lychee powder in it. This new Grape SOUR flavor doesn’t appear to have anything quite so exotic as lychee, but does include natural grape, apple, and lemon “acids” as well as red grape juice concentrate.
The taste is pretty good but not wonderful. I was surprised to find that when you first pop these in your mouth, you don’t get much flavor at all. They’re not sour at first either, you get a sort of a muffled grape after a little bit.
Once you bite into them, that’s where the flavor does come alive. The grape is quite realistic (hey, it’s made from actual grapes) and I guess it is a little bit sour. I’m not usually a fan of sour candies and sour patch kids are about as sour as I ever go. These aren’t even as strong as those. It’s definitely more sour than the plain “grape” flavor of years ago.
There’s a lingering grape aftertaste from this flavor that is quite persistent. It’s not bad per se, but if you’re not loving these in the first place, the memory of how much you dislike them might stay with you through the day.
