Heyhey, it’s #TicTacTuesday!! The 134th variety added to my TicTac collection: Lumps of Coal Cherry. I’m sensing that our friends at Ferrero are running out of ideas for new flavors, as they’ve been few and far between since the pandemic began. The new flavors we have had since are all not really “new.”
I normally wouldn’t have even purchased a pack like this, if it wasn’t for the black color of the candies. I’ve reviewed one other black Tic Tac variety but they weren’t available in the US, because they used a coloring that isn’t legal here. Those were the FRESH+: Licorice and they used E153, which is basically activated charcoal. Instead, these black candies used a combination of red, blue, and yellow artificial colors to make black coloring. Not bad.
The cherry flavor is fine, nothing Earth-shattering. I’m not a huge fan of cherry-flavored candies though (I’m the one gladly giving away my cherry Starburst but hoarding the strawberry ones). The texture is also different in these. It’s hard to explain but chewing them seems “softer” than usual. I’m not sure if it’s this flavor or just this pack, but it’s a little soft.
Also, the labeling is confusing to me. What are these supposed to be called?? It appears to be “Naughty or Nice Lumps of Coal Cherry” meh too confusing and long. The “Nice” ones are candy cane flavored and white. I guess that’s fine, but those candy cane Tic Tacs still use sucralose and other artificial sweeteners that I refuse to eat.
