The 90th variety added to the Tic Tac collection at VOCOMOTION Studios: Saunf. This unusual flavor just arrived here from Kolkata, India. Saunf is the Hindi word for “Fennel,” something that is very well known to the Indian palate but largely unknown in the US. If you’ve ever had mukhwas, those fennel seeds served in a bowl as you exit an Indian restaurant, then you’re familiar with this flavor.
In India, they are prohibited from using artificial colours (see what I did there?), so all the candies are white but the packaging is a translucent green color. The label is colorful and features a couple fennel seeds. These packs are fragrant, filling the air with smell of fennel before I even unwrapped the 6-packs of small Tic Tac boxes. The taste is pretty much exactly like a very fat and large candy-coated fennel seed. The label lists “Added Fennel Flavour.” The taste fills your mouth and stays there for quite a while. If you like black licorice flavor, these are the candies for you.
It really freshens the breath in a different way than any mint could. Saunf is truly a unique Tic Tac flavor, reminiscent of the Elaichi Mint variety I received previously from India. I wonder if there are any more local flavors coming. I’m really enjoying these, but I suspect my wife and children won’t be fighting me for these unusual candies. More for me!
