The 89th variety added to the Tic Tac collection at VOCOMOTION Studios: Mint Rush. These just came in from the UK and they sure are interesting, and just as tasty. There’s a lot going on in this little pack. First, what we have is actually a combination of two new flavors: Fresh Rush and Smooth Mint. The label is more involved than usual, with a very modern design and having small drops of water added in (to indicate freshness?). There is a little legend or key to show us which color goes with which flavor. This is a new thing, compared to previous “combo flavors” but probably because previous combos are pretty obvious which flavor goes with which color.
The coloring situation is pretty interesting here as well. The use of artificial colors has been banned in the UK for some time now, so Tic Tacs sold there have been all white with a transparently-colored containers. There have been natural dyes for a while, but many of them suffer from any number of production issues. It looks like they’ve cracked the natural color problem by using spirulina and apple extract in these candies. The colors look great and won’t kill you, yay!
The two flavors in this combo have some subtle differences, but in essence they are both mint. One difference here, between previous mint combos like Israeli MIX is that this mixture is made up of two completely new flavors…at least, they have new names. The light blue mint is “Smooth Mint” which tastes pretty much like Spearmint to me. It has a soft feel, not harsh or overpowering. The dark blue mint is “Fresh Rush” and it’s a bit harder to describe. It’s not as strong as Powermint, not as soft as Spearmint or Wintergreen, and doesn’t have that front anise hit like good-old Freshmint has. In combination, both flavors in Mint Rush provide for a really great mint combo and will definitely freshen your breath!
