Heyhey, it’s #TicTacTuesday! The 145th variety added to the Tic Tac collection, TIC TAC TWO: Strawberry & Lime. This pack comes to us from Italy and is the first in this new “TIC TAC TWO” line. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen dual flavors in a single candy from Tic Tac. Previously, there were “Mixers” where each mint started out as one flavor and then morphed into another in your mouth. Is this supposed to be a play on “Tic Tac Toe”? Eh, not bad, kind of cute, but maybe they could have played that up a bit in the packaging.

The candies themselves are not the normal Tic Tac shape or size. As you can see, they are dual colored, with each flat face of the candy representing a different flavor and color. They are not coated, so they have a matte finish, which is pretty unusual, and the texture is different. It has that same chalky texture that you find in pressed-sugar candies. So these are “naked” Tic Tacs, I guess.

They also are “sugar free” which is a big no-no from me. These use sorbitol and Sucralose. I don’t mind natural sugar alcohols like sorbitol or xylitol, but I really cannot stand artificial sweeteners like Sucralose. I can always spot the taste of them and really hate it. Why not just use sorbitol alone? Sugar alcohols have a tendency to have a “cooling effect” in the mouth and maybe they wanted to cut that back for fruit flavors but also keep the calories down. It’s interesting that they used only natural colorings but then used artificial sweeteners. Also, since the candies are larger than normal, there is also a warning on the back of the pack (in Italian) about a choking hazard for babies.

Even though these are really two flavors, this combination is very strawberry-forward. It is a nice and realistic strawberry flavor though. I don’t really get the lime, except in a slight acerbic finish (which I assume is the lime anyways). Due to the Sucralose aftertaste, I couldn’t eat more than a couple of these and won’t be having any more. Nice idea overall but bleh.
