Heyhey, it’s #TicTacTuesday! The 140th variety added to the Tic Tac collection: Chewy! Fruit Adventure. This isn’t the first time Tic Tac has strayed outside the candy mint area. We’ve seen gum (with and without liquid center) and even chocolate (which I was never able to acquire but I did see pics). I was able to find these at Walmart initially but now they’re everywhere in the US.
These chewy candies are a bit larger than your standard Tic Tacs and they’re not in the same shape as the mints. They more resemble squashed Skittles than Tic Tacs. The flavor is “Fruit Adventure” which we’ve seen for years in the mints, but these flavors are different. In Chewy! we have cherry, lemon, orange, apple, and grape. In the regular Fruit Adventure there is cherry, orange, apple, and passionfruit. I’m curious why they didn’t keep the chewy flavors consistent with the mint flavors.
The flavors of these are good, pretty much just like Skittles. They didn’t use natural flavors here but did stick with natural colors at least. These also differ from the mints in that they are highly caloric. I assume the chewiness here is brought by corn syrup, and there really is not way to make that calorie-free (or close to it) like the mints.
Unlike their more spherical counterparts, Skittles, the Tic Tacs chewy candies tend to stick to your teeth. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I noticed it right away after eating just one. I ate some Skittles to compare and I didn’t have that problem. Weird.
They chose to release these in bags, rather than hard packs. These might actually be the first Tic Tacs that are released in bags, as even the gum and the choco varieties were in hard packs. So these are really directly competing with Skittles at this point. The bags come in 1.8oz, 2.8oz, 3.4oz, and 7oz sizes. I’m also not sure why so many sizes.
I think Ferrero has moved into a new area here and I can’t tell if they’re going to stick with it or if it’ll be a limited run like the gum. They’re fun to munch on but I don’t see myself buying these again.
