Heyhey, it’s #TicTacTuesday!! The 126th variety added to the Tic Tac collection: X-FREEZE Wintergreen. My mom actually found these for me. It’s becoming increasingly rare that friends & family can find me new flavors, so she gets one point for finding this! I get a lot of texts from people, “Do you have these yet?” YEP!
This is a new line from Tic Tac, called X-FREEZE. It’s pretty much the US version of the FRESH+ line I’ve posted about here, with some subtle differences. The major difference, though, is the name. I’m not sure why they didn’t just go with FRESH+, it’s a perfectly cromulent name. While the candies themselves are exactly the same size (X-FREEZE vs FRESH+), the plastic packs are slightly different in size. In the smaller packs, the X-FREEZE is slightly thicker and contains 30 candies, which is a few more than the FRESH+ packs contain. The FRESH+ line featured Strong Mint, Eucalyptus, and Liquorice but not Wintergreen as we see here with X-FREEZE.
So how do they taste? AWESOME. I really love these mints. They’re super strong and have a very different texture & experience than what you get with regular Tic Tacs. The sweeteners are Xylitol & Stevia. There is also maltodextrin, but there must be so little of it that the candies still have 0 calories each. I’m pretty sensitive to the flavor of some sweeteners but I didn’t really detect any “Stevia taste” so that’s good. The Xylitol “cooling effect” is still present in these mints and I love it.
There’s not much discernable aftertaste from these, and I don’t mind that at all. The “cooling crystals” must be clumps of mint & xylitol (and spirulina for color). They should just sell pouches of cooling crystals, that would be rad.
I was sad when I first tasted the FRESH+ line because I loved them but figured I’d never find them in the US or get them in any real quantity online. I’m happy to see these come to the US, but I am wondering how long they’ll last. Grab them while you can if you like strong mints.
