#106 – GUM (Cool Cassis)

Heyhey, it’s #TicTacTuesday! The 106th variety added to the Tic Tac collection at VOCOMOTION Studios: GUM (Cassis). In the US we’re only able to get the basic three flavors of gum: Freshmint, Spearmint, and Cool Watermelon. In Europe, however, they get a little fancier, with a little cassis from Poland. For those that aren’t familiar, cassis is also known as blackcurrant, a small berry found in Europe and Asia.

The taste is pretty realistic and not very chemical-y, which is surprising considering the number of sweeteners used in this product. As with most gum nowadays, there are 5 kinds of sweetener used in Tic Tac GUM: Xylitol, Isomalt, Sorbitol, Acesulfame K, and Sucralose. Interesting that they left out the Aspartame/Nutrasweet. Personally, I’d be happy if they left out all artificial sweeteners and just used things like Stevia or sugar alcohols (like those first three sweeteners I listed)…or just SUGAR. I get it though, you’re chewing this gum for potentially a long time and having sugar against your teeth for that long is probably not helping prevent tooth decay, right?

The Xylitol they use in these gums leaves a really strong residual cooling effect in your mouth. The cassis flavor and cooling last a really long time, maybe 30 minutes after I chewed the gum for like 15 seconds (I can’t chew gum for very long, bleh).

One interesting thing I noticed in the plastic pack is that the bottom of the pack is built up in such a way as to keep the container from holding more candies. That keeps the outside the same size while reducing the internal space so that they can fit an exact “25 GUMS” inside. It doesn’t state in the back (based on my stark lack of ability to speak Polish) what the serving size is but I’d bet it’s 5 gums, which would come to an even 5 servings per pack. Overall not bad. It’s a very “euro-flavor” but if you dig gum, this would be a good one to try.

RATING: 2/5
