Heyhey, it’s #TicTacTuesday! The 93rd variety added to the Tic Tac collection at VOCOMOTION Studios: Despicable Me 3 (Tangerine & Banana). These are a limited edition release and I’ve found 8 different label variations for characters from the movie: Dave, Mel, Gru, Dru, Lucy, Carl, Bratt, and Tim. I’m not sure what the tangerine connection is to the movie, maybe it’s just the same color as the movie logo. As far as bananas, the minions are obsessed with bananas and previous Minion Tic Tacs were in banana and also passion fruit flavor (no idea why).
I did a side-by-side comparison of the standard orange flavor and this new tangerine flavor because I was curious if this new flavor really was orange or if there actually was a difference. The orange uses artificial flavors but tangerine uses real “dried tangerine juice” so that’s pretty nice. The flavor of tangerine here is much less assertive than the orange with only a light aftertaste. Tangerine includes a hint of the bitter pink grapefruit Tic Tac flavor (one of my favorites) on the finish. Color-wise, orange looks much more vibrant next to the tangerine.
Each candy is printed with a face of one of the characters from the movie (and a random robot). This appears to be the Tic Tac variety with the largest number of print variations, although the Be Mine Mix had a few variations too. The printing is a bit messy on this batch, with some random black specks on the candies that I haven’t noticed on any other printed varieties. Gettin’ sloppy there, Ferrero. A close-up of all the print variations is below.
As a flavor combination, the banana flavor winds up overpowering tangerine and you almost can’t taste the latter at all. I really like the tangerine taste and hope they release it alone rather than only with banana. This is a cute tie-in with the film, an evolution of the previous release of Minions Tic Tacs and a nice new flavor addition of tangerine.
